The FIFA Wold Cup is coming to Dallas… and by “Dallas, Texas” they mean Arlington, Texas.

To start…

Okay, now that’s out of the way, let’s dig in. Or, at least, tap in for now. I wanted to at least get some general info up sooner than later. I’m looking at you, parents.

Wait, Where is Arlington?

  • The city of Arlington is in between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, leaning closer to Fort Worth.
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to AT&T Stadium it’s about 13 miles (21km), 15-20 minutes by car.
  • Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL) to AT&T Stadium it’s about 22 miles (36km), 25-40 minutes by car
  • Is there direct public transportation from Dallas to Arlington? Nope. We are very behind. Please plan on Uber, rental cars, or taking a train from Dallas all the way to Fort Worth, and then busses or taxis to double back to Arlington.
  • Highway 30 is going to be INSANE. If you can, try to stay somewhere that can get you to AT&T while avoiding it.

Match schedule, AT&T Stadium, & Texas

9 matches over the months of the June and July. The good news: AT&T Stadium is covered and has AC (can you imagine that bill?). The bad News: It’s gonna be hottttt outside.

I remember traveling to India and walking out of the airport in New Dehli. I felt right at home in all of the 101 degrees of glory. Maybe you’re from a region where you’ll find the Texas heat and humidity a familiar welcome embrace. If not, here are some tips.

  • Our UV index doesn’t get as high as somewhere like India, but you should still be using a high SPF Sunscreen on exposed skin.
  • Hats
  • HYDRATION! You need water, your kids need water. please stay hydrated. (shoutout to the r/hydrohomies squad on reddit).
  • Pedialyte and other electrolyte powders are easy to carry with you so stock up on those for your travels.

What about some things to do between matches?

  • There are tons of diverse family owned restaurants for you to pick from. You can typically find good vegan and vegetarian options in all cities.
  • Museums, botanical gardens, aquarium, parks, shopping, water parks, Six Flags Over Texas amusement Park
  • Dallas has an INCREDIBLE jazz scene with some of the most talented musicians in the country. Please feel free to go listen and support our music community at venues like The Balcony Club, Revelers Hall, Three-Links, Triumphs Espresso & Whiskey Bar, and Scat Jazz Lounge (Fort Worth). Obligatory shout out to The Funky Knuckles!

Next time…

More specific details and ideas to come. Please feel free to comment with any questions or info you’d like me to add in for my next World Cup post. Locals feel free to add any helpful information as well!
